Across Japan, bamboo forests require regular maintenance to remain healthy. For many years, much of the harvested bamboo had little practical use and was simply discarded at considerable cost. After years of research and development, Japanese papermakers succeeded in producing paper made from 100% Japanese bamboo fibre, giving thousands of tonnes of locally harvested bamboo a valuable new purpose every year.

The name Takegami was introduced by Nishimura to give this initiative its own identity and to highlight a simple message: meaningful environmental change often begins when individuals choose to take action within their own field of expertise. This philosophy continues to define the brand and is reflected in every notebook and paper product it creates.

Since the launch of the original Takegami 100 Notebook in 2011, the brand has received the Social Products Award and its products have been selected by renowned Japanese stationery retailers, including Ginza Itoya.
