Eboya Houga Tanshin True Heart Medium Fountain Pen
Eboya is Japan’s last remaining ebonite manufacturer. Each pen reflects a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship and technical innovation. Ebonite—one of the earliest polymers—is produced by vulcanizing pure rubber with sulfur (25% to 50%), valued for its durability, natural sheen, and warm feel. Every pen is engraved with Eboya Made in Tokyo, a mark of authenticity and excellence.
Concept and design
The name Houga (萌芽) means “bud” or “germination,” symbolizing the birth of new ideas with every stroke.
This model follows the classic “Torpedo” or “Cigar” shape, with pure lines and balanced proportions that embody Japanese minimalism. The body is turned from ebonite and polished to achieve a flawless natural shine. Beyond its beauty, ebonite provides a soft, secure grip, reducing hand strain during long writing sessions. Its marbled patterns are created by manually layering raw rubber with coloured materials, a complex process that ensures each piece is visually unique. This design is exclusive to Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing.
Within the Houga series there are eight colours: “Tanshin” (red), “Nichibo” (orange), “Kogetsu” (yellow), “Wakaba” (yellow-green), “Kunpu” (green), “Shinkai” (blue), “Shinryu” (beige), and “Kuroi” (solid black). Functionality and filling system
Equipped with a carefully tuned 14K gold nib, the Houga Medium delivers a smooth, fluid, and precise writing experience. It uses a standard international cartridge/converter filling system, making it compatible with a wide variety of inks and highly versatile.
