The Eboya Kyouka Evergreen Small is handcrafted in Tokyo from green marbled ebonite over a black base. Its classic “Onoto” style design, combined with a 14k gold nib, provides smooth and precise writing. Includes international converter, cartridge, complimentary ink bottle, and paulownia wood box.
Eboya, the last workshop in Japan dedicated to the production of ebonite. Each piece reflects a commitment to traditional craftsmanship and continuous innovation. Ebonite—one of the earliest polymers discovered—is obtained by vulcanizing pure rubber with sulfur (between 25% and 50%). Its name comes from ebony, which it began to replace in certain applications thanks to its strength and natural shine. Engraved on the body, as in all of the brand’s pens, is Eboya Made in Tokyo, a mark of origin and excellence.
The name “Kyouka” (響華) comes from the Japanese expression Kyoukasuigetsu, meaning “flower in the mirror,” a metaphor for elusive beauty and technical perfection. The “Evergreen” finish combines vivid green marbling over a black ebonite base, evoking the serenity and vitality of evergreen forests.
Kyouka follows the historic “Onoto” style, created in 1905 in the UK with De La Rue’s famous “Onoto The Pen,” which reached Japan in 1919. Celebrated authors such as Natsume Soseki used this design, and it became a symbol of prestige and refinement. Eboya reinterprets this classic straight and minimalist silhouette with modern functionality, hand-turning and polishing ebonite bodies to highlight their unique marbling and depth of color. Available in three sizes (Small, Medium, Large), this Small version is lightweight, balanced, and perfect for daily writing.
Equipped with a 14k gold nib, the Kyouka ensures smooth, controlled writing. It uses an international cartridge/converter system compatible with brands such as Pelikan or Rotring (not compatible with Montblanc, Waterman or Caran d’Ache). Each piece is individually crafted in Tokyo, continuing the artisanal tradition of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing.

Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or humidity. Store in a dry, dark place. Occasional cleaning with a soft cloth is enough to maintain its beauty.

Eboya is the flagship brand of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, founded in 1952 and recognized as Japan’s last specialist in this noble material. For decades, the company supplied ebonite to leading writing houses such as Sailor and Pilot. In 2009 it launched its own line of fountain pens, combining technical mastery with refined aesthetics. Each pen is handcrafted in the Tokyo workshop, with meticulous attention to quality and detail, ensuring instruments that endure through time.
“Like an evergreen forest, the Kyouka Evergreen brings serenity and freshness to every word you write.”
