The Eboya Hakobune Kogetsu Yellow Large is a Japanese fountain pen crafted from marbled ebonite and handmade in Tokyo. Fitted with a 14K gold nib and an international cartridge or converter filling system, it offers smooth, balanced writing with a unique pattern on every piece.
Eboya is the last factory dedicated to ebonite production in Japan. Each piece reflects a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship and continuous innovation. Ebonite—one of the earliest polymers ever developed—provides a distinctive look and feel. It is produced by vulcanizing natural rubber with sulfur (between 25% and 50%), and its name derives from ebony, which it gradually replaced thanks to its durability, resilience, and natural sheen. As with all Eboya creations, the engraving Eboya Made in Tokyo certifies its origin and quality.
The Hakobune (方舟) model—meaning “ark” or “large vessel”—conveys stability, balance, and calm movement. The Kogetsu variant (江月, kōgetsu) features the official Yellow color, created through an artisanal marbling process applied over a black ebonite base. The result is a rich yellow marbled pattern with deep dark veining, offering visual depth and an organic character. Each pattern is made by hand, ensuring that no two pens are identical. The clipless design emphasizes a clean, continuous silhouette that defines the Hakobune series.
Fitted with a carefully adjusted 14K gold nib by the artisans of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, this fountain pen delivers smooth, stable, and well-controlled writing. It features a dual-use filling system compatible with international standard cartridges and converters (European type).

Are Eboya fountain pens at Inktraveler real in-stock items?
Yes. Inktraveler works exclusively with real stock. All Eboya fountain pens shown as available are physically in our possession and ready for immediate shipment.
Can I request an Eboya model that is not listed on the website?
Yes. If the model or color you are looking for is not currently listed, you can contact us. As long as Eboya continues to produce it, we can arrange a special order.
What is the delivery time for a special order?
Because Eboya fountain pens are handcrafted in Japan, lead times for special orders are typically several months. The exact timeframe depends on the model and the workshop’s production schedule.
Will every pen have the same color pattern?
No. The marbling process is done by hand, which means each Hakobune Kogetsu features a unique and non-repeating pattern.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Store the pen in a dark place and clean it occasionally with a soft cloth to preserve its finish.
Eboya is the flagship brand of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, founded in 1952 and recognized as the last Japanese company specializing exclusively in ebonite. For decades, it supplied this material to major Japanese writing instrument brands. In 2009, Eboya introduced its own line of fountain pens, combining technical expertise, ergonomics, and a refined Japanese aesthetic. Today, Eboya continues to create writing instruments that are durable, balanced, and unmistakably crafted.
“Like a vessel moving calmly forward, this pen brings balance and rhythm to every line.”
