The Midori Grain Ring Memo Pocket Notepad combines a Spanish bonded leather fibre cover with high-quality Japanese MD PAPER. Its slim shape makes it easy to carry in a bag, backpack or large pocket, while its 100 pages provide two different writing surfaces. Available in Black, Dark Brown, Red and Green, it is a compact companion for notes, lists, sketches and everyday planning.

A compact notebook for everyday notes

Compared with the B6 notebook from the same collection, the compact WM Ring Memo Grain has smaller dimensions and a narrower 5 mm ruling. It is ideal for lists, reminders, schedules, short ideas, personal records and quick notes. Its slim shape makes it comfortable to hold in one hand and practical to use both at a desk and while travelling.

Spanish craftsmanship meets Japanese design

The Grain collection was developed as part of The World Meister’s Products, a MIDORI initiative that brings together materials and specialist craftsmanship from different countries with Japanese design and manufacturing. The cover material is produced in Spain, while the finished notebook is designed and made in Japan. The result is a practical and durable writing tool in which both traditions retain their own character.

What Grain means in this notebook

The name Grain comes from the Spanish material used to make the cover. This is not a single piece of full-grain leather, but bonded leather fibre made from genuine cowhide remnants. The leather remnants are ground and formed into new, durable sheets. This process recovers animal-derived material that might otherwise be discarded. Slight variations in the colour and texture of the surface are natural characteristics of its composition and manufacturing process.

Two types of MD PAPER in one notebook

The notebook contains 100 pages of Japanese MD PAPER. The first 50 pages are white with 5 mm horizontal ruling, while the remaining 50 pages are blank and cream-coloured. The contrast between the two paper colours, together with the ruled lines extending to the edge, makes each section easy to identify.

The ruled pages follow the layout of MIDORI’s long-established Diamond Memo. Stronger lines divide the writing area into four sections that can be used for schedules, tasks, expenses or personal records. The blank cream pages provide an open surface for sketches, illustrations, diagrams and unrestricted writing.

Designed to travel with you

The metal ring binding makes it easy to turn the pages and keep the notebook open while writing. An elastic band attached to the back cover helps protect the pages when the notebook is carried in a bag or backpack. A firm writing board is also built into the final page, preventing the elastic fastening and its fittings from interfering when writing near the back of the notebook.

A logo connected with the 1780 edition of Don Quixote

The Grain logo features a motif inspired by Spanish bullfighting together with a recreation of a historical Spanish typeface. MIDORI connects this lettering with the type used for the 1780 edition of Don Quixote de la Mancha, prepared by the Royal Spanish Academy and printed by Joaquín Ibarra.

That landmark edition was published in four volumes with original illustrations and became an important work in the editorial history of Don Quixote, both for its treatment of the text and for the quality of its printing and artwork. This typographic reference creates a subtle link between Spanish printing history, the cover made in Spain, Japanese paper and the act of writing itself.

The history and philosophy of MIDORI
