About us
Inktraveler is an independent online store founded in Spain in 2012, specialising in fountain pens, inks and Japanese stationery, and the first to introduce Midori’s Traveler’s Notebook—followed by Traveler’s Company—in Spain.. From the beginning, our aim has been to introduce a different way of understanding writing to a European audience — one that pays close attention to materials, usage and the passage of time. Our work consists of carefully selecting, contextualising and offering writing tools with purpose, most of them sourced from Japan.
Who is behind Inktraveler
Inktraveler is run by Maria G. Varela and Pepe Martinez, specialists in Japanese fountain pens since 2012.
Their work is based on direct product selection, technical knowledge of nibs, inks and paper, and real, hands-on writing experience.
Specialists in handwriting and Japanese stationery
We are not a general stationery store. Inktraveler is a specialised shop focused on handwriting and the tools that make it possible. We work with leading Japanese brands such as Traveler’s Company (Traveler’s Notebook), Sailor, Platinum, Namiki and Pilot, as well as technical papers designed for fountain pen use, including Life, Midori and Tsubame.
Our selection follows functional and technical criteria. We value ink flow stability, paper performance, pen ergonomics and the coherence between form and use. Every product we include in our catalogue has been tested, documented and selected for a specific reason.
This approach has been developed over more than a decade of continuous work with Japanese products, evaluating their performance in real writing conditions and advising customers with different levels of experience.
Technical criteria and craft knowledge
We understand writing as a physical and reflective experience. Paper weight and texture, ink behaviour or nib adjustment are not minor details, but essential elements that directly influence the act of writing. For this reason, we collaborate with nibmeisters — specialists in nib tuning and customisation — as well as Japanese artisan workshops, ensuring a high level of quality and consistency in every piece.
Direct relationship with Japan and international service
From our base in Spain, we serve customers across Europe and internationally. We maintain a direct and ongoing relationship with manufacturers and distributors in Japan, allowing us to access limited editions, uncommon models outside the Japanese market and hard-to-find pieces. This direct connection ensures authenticity, traceability and advice based on years of experience.
A conscious approach to writing
Since 2012, we have promoted handwriting as a conscious practice in contrast to digital immediacy. We believe in well-made, durable and honest objects designed to accompany their users for years. Inktraveler is not just an online store, but a reference space for those seeking specialised Japanese stationery and writing tools selected with technical, cultural and functional criteria.
