Eboya Yuzen Nichibo Sunset Eyedropper or Converter Fountain Pen
Eboya is Japan’s last remaining ebonite manufacturer. Each pen reflects a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship and technical innovation. Ebonite—one of the earliest polymers—is made by vulcanizing pure rubber with sulfur (25% to 50%), valued for its durability, shine, and warm feel. Every piece bears the engraving Eboya Made in Tokyo, a true mark of authenticity and excellence.
Design and inspiration
The colour Nichibō (日暮) means “sunset” or “dusk.” This Sunset edition evokes the warm, shifting tones of the horizon as the day ends, with orange marbling over a dark base that recalls fading light. The Yuzen Nichibo Sunset balances strength and serenity, with a 13.6 mm diameter body that shares its proportions with the Natsume and Houju medium models. Though it may appear slim, its solid construction ensures comfort, robustness, and timeless elegance.
Functionality and filling system
The Yuzen Nichibo Sunset is equipped with an eyedropper system that allows direct filling of the barrel with ink, holding up to 3 cc. This makes it an excellent choice for heavy writers who seek autonomy. Filling is straightforward:
- Open the pen body by removing the nib section (photo 1).
- Fill an eyedropper with ink (photo 2) and pour it into the barrel (three drops equal about 3 cc).
- When refilling, wipe away residual ink to avoid leakage.
- If changing inks, rinse the barrel thoroughly with water.
The pen can also be used with standard international cartridges and converters, just like the other Eboya models, adding great versatility. Pelikan cartridges are especially recommended for compatibility.
