The Eboya Yuzen Nichibo Sunset is an orange marbled ebonite fountain pen fitted with a 14K gold nib. Its versatile filling system accepts both eyedropper and standard international cartridges or converters, combining large ink capacity with everyday practicality. Includes a premium paulownia wood case courtesy of Inktraveler.
Eboya is Japan’s last remaining ebonite manufacturer. Each pen reflects a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship and technical innovation. Ebonite—one of the earliest polymers—is made by vulcanizing pure rubber with sulfur (25% to 50%), valued for its durability, shine, and warm feel. Every piece bears the engraving Eboya Made in Tokyo, a true mark of authenticity and excellence.
The colour Nichibō (日暮) means “sunset” or “dusk.” This Sunset edition evokes the warm, shifting tones of the horizon as the day ends, with orange marbling over a dark base that recalls fading light. The Yuzen Nichibo Sunset balances strength and serenity, with a 13.6 mm diameter body that shares its proportions with the Natsume and Houju medium models. Though it may appear slim, its solid construction ensures comfort, robustness, and timeless elegance.
The Yuzen Nichibo Sunset is equipped with an eyedropper system that allows direct filling of the barrel with ink, holding up to 3 cc. This makes it an excellent choice for heavy writers who seek autonomy. Filling is straightforward:
The pen can also be used with standard international cartridges and converters, just like the other Eboya models, adding great versatility. Pelikan cartridges are especially recommended for compatibility.

Eboya is the signature brand of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, founded in 1952 and recognised as Japan’s last ebonite specialist. For decades it supplied this material to Sailor and Pilot. In 2009, it launched its own line of fountain pens, combining technical mastery with refined Japanese aesthetics. Today, Eboya continues to produce durable, comfortable instruments with unmistakable craftsmanship.
"Like the evening sky, this pen captures warmth, fluidity, and beauty in every stroke."
