Limited edition of 100 pieces. Handcrafted lacewood fountain pen with glossy polyurethane finish and 18K gold nib. A tribute to craftsmanship and tradition.
This commemorative fountain pen celebrates the 90th anniversary of Mitasanshodo, a traditional craft workshop founded in 1928 in Tatebayashi City, Gunma Prefecture. Created in collaboration with Platinum Pen Co., the pen pays homage to the Genroku era, a flourishing period of culture and good governance under the fifth shogun, Tsunayoshi Tokugawa. By fostering peace after the Warring States era, this time gave rise to intellectual figures such as Chikamatsu Monzaemon, Ihara Saikaku, and Matsuo Basho.
The Genroku Shogun fountain pen is crafted from high-quality lacewood, a rare Australian timber prized for its durability and aesthetic appeal. Its grain features a shimmering, slightly silvery scale-like pattern—sometimes called beefwood or sharkwood. This intricate texture, reminiscent of lace, gives each pen a distinct character. Coated with a glossy urethane finish and carefully buffed, the wood’s elegant geometry is fully revealed. No two pens are alike: each is made to highlight the natural beauty of its unique grain.
The Izumo series is known for refined proportions and artisanal quality. The Genroku Shogun model draws inspiration from samurai leadership—strength combined with elegance. The pen’s generous size ensures comfort and control, while gold-colored trim contrasts beautifully with the natural warmth of the wood.
Fitted with a medium 18K gold nib, the pen offers consistent ink flow and a smooth writing experience. It is produced at Platinum’s factory in Isesaki and includes a Platinum converter, compatible with Platinum cartridges as well.
Each pen is engraved with its limited edition number (out of 100 pieces), and comes with a Platinum converter and a complimentary bottle of ink from Inktraveler. The presentation box is made of paulownia wood, underscoring the elegance and craftsmanship of this collaboration. (Images are for reference only. Wood grain and tone may vary due to the natural material).
