The Eboya Kyouka Kuroi Black Small is a Japanese ebonite fountain pen crafted by the last company in Japan dedicated to this material. Its clipless, compact design offers minimalist elegance and smooth, precise writing.
This model is a masterpiece created by Eboya, the last factory dedicated to ebonite production in Japan. Each piece reflects a commitment to traditional craftsmanship and continuous innovation. The use of ebonite—one of the first polymers ever discovered—lends this pen a unique aesthetic: ebonite is produced by vulcanizing pure rubber with sulfur (between 25% and 50%), and its name derives from ebony, which it began to replace in certain applications due to its durability and natural shine. The engraving Eboya Made in Tokyo on the pen body is witness to its origin and excellence.
The Kyouka design is inspired by classic Japanese cigar/torpedo silhouettes, with a balanced, clipless profile that enhances its minimalist character. The polished black ebonite base (original design by Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing) delivers a warm, deep sheen that subtly shifts with the light. This colour is exclusive to Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing.
Fitted with a 14K gold nib, the Small version delivers smooth, controlled, and precise writing. It uses an international standard cartridge/converter filling system, compatible with brands such as Pelikan or Rotring (not compatible with Montblanc, Waterman, or Caran d’Ache). Each body is individually crafted, continuing the tradition of Tokyo’s skilled workshops.
• High-quality ink cartridge (1 piece)
• International standard converter
• Premium paulownia wood box (Inktraveler uses this box instead of the standard cardboard packaging)
• Printed instruction and maintenance card

To preserve the finish, keep the pen out of direct sunlight and humid environments. Occasional polishing with a soft cloth is sufficient.
Eboya, founded in Tokyo, is the last factory in Japan exclusively dedicated to producing ebonite fountain pens. Its legacy is built upon the fusion of centuries-old traditions and modern vulcanization techniques, offering products that combine durability, aesthetics, and functionality. In 2009, the company launched its own fountain pen line under the Eboya name, bringing material expertise together with a deeply Japanese design sensibility. Production has historically featured master craftsmanship—up to 2016 under the renowned turner Noritoshi Kanesaki, a disciple of the legendary nibmeister Kubo Kohei—leaving a lasting artisanal legacy. Today, Eboya continues to combine traditional methods with meticulous polishing to create durable, comfortable, and unique writing instruments.
"A compact piece that encapsulates the essence of Japanese craftsmanship in every stroke."
