Eboya is Japan’s last remaining ebonite manufacturer. Each pen reflects a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship and material excellence. Ebonite—one of the earliest polymers—is made by vulcanizing natural rubber with sulfur (25–50%), valued for its resilience and natural sheen. Every piece bears the engraving Eboya Made in Tokyo as a mark of origin and quality.
Design and inspiration
The Kobue model—“little flute”—features two gentle curves that create a balanced, ergonomic profile. The Yuhin Sunset Beach colour combines a warm orange tone with subtle blue marbling that evokes seaside sunsets; both barrel and cap share exactly the same orange tone. Personally selected at the Eboya factory in Tokyo during summer 2025, this variation offers a distinctive warmth and visual harmony. The flawless assembly and rich ebonite tones result in a pen of remarkable quality and elegance and unique.
Functionality and filling system
Fitted with a carefully tuned 14K gold nib by the artisans at Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, the Kobue delivers a smooth, controlled writing experience. It accepts standard international cartridges and converters, compatible with brands such as Pelikan and Rotring (not compatible with Montblanc, Waterman, or Caran d’Ache). Eboya is the signature brand of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, founded in 1952 and known as Japan’s last specialist in ebonite. For decades it has supplied material to renowned pen makers such as Sailor and Pilot. In 2009, it launched its own line of fountain pens, combining technical mastery with refined Japanese aesthetics. Until 2016, production was led by master turner Noritoshi Kanesaki, a disciple of the legendary nibmeister Kubo Kohei. Today, Eboya continues to create durable, comfortable instruments with unmistakable craftsmanship.
