The Eboya Yatate Black Medium is a solid black ebonite fountain pen with a golden clip. Inspired by the traditional Japanese portable inkstand, it features elegant design, a 14K gold nib and an international cartridge/converter filling system. Includes a premium paulownia wood case.
Eboya is Japan’s last remaining ebonite manufacturer. Each pen reflects a deep commitment to traditional craftsmanship and material excellence. Ebonite—one of the earliest polymers—is made by vulcanizing natural rubber with sulfur (25–50%), valued for its resilience and natural sheen. Every piece bears the engraving Eboya Made in Tokyo as a mark of authenticity and quality.
The Yatate (矢立) takes its name from the traditional Japanese “portable inkstand.” During the Kamakura period, samurai carried a brush in a case with a small ink reservoir known as a yatate. By the Edo period, its use had spread among common people as well. In this Black Medium edition, the solid black finish emphasizes the essential form of the instrument, with the deep gloss characteristic of polished ebonite. The golden clip provides both elegance and practicality, completing the pen’s balanced design.
Fitted with a 14K gold nib tuned by the artisans at Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, it delivers a smooth, controlled writing experience. It uses a standard international cartridge/converter system.
