Eboya Made in Tokyo
Eboya, the last factory dedicated to ebonite production in Japan. Each piece reflects a commitment to traditional craftsmanship and continuous innovation. The use of ebonite—one of the first polymers ever discovered—gives this pen a unique aesthetic: ebonite is produced by vulcanizing pure rubber with sulfur (between 25% and 50%), and its name derives from ebony, which it began to replace in certain applications due to its durability and natural shine. Engraved on its body, as on all the brand’s pieces, is Eboya Made in Tokyo, a testament to its origin and excellence.
This model stands out for its solid girth and well-balanced finish, designed to offer comfort both posted and unposted. The body is crafted from marbled ebonite over a black ebonite base, a color exclusive to Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing. The Shinkai finish—meaning “deep sea” in Japanese—combines a rich blue tone with darker accents that evoke the depths of the ocean. Its surface offers a silky, non-slip touch, allowing hours of fatigue-free writing.
Please check availability of other colors and estimated shipping time if not in stock. At Inktraveler, we pride ourselves on working with real stock but also accept special orders in case of unavailability.
Fitted with a carefully tuned 14K gold nib (Bock #6 narrow type), this pen delivers smooth, precise, and balanced writing. It uses an international standard cartridge or converter system, compatible with brands such as Pelikan or Rotring (not compatible with Montblanc, Waterman, or Caran d’Ache). Each body is turned and polished in Tokyo by the artisans of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing. The perfect assembly of all its parts, along with the color of its ebonite, results in a piece of great beauty and quality.

Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or humidity, and store it in a dark place. Occasional cleaning with a soft cloth is enough to maintain its beauty.
Eboya is the flagship brand of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, founded in 1952 and recognized as Japan’s last manufacturer specializing in ebonite. For decades, it has supplied this material to leading writing instrument companies such as Sailor and Pilot. In 2009, it launched its own line of fountain pens, combining technical expertise with Japanese aesthetic sensitivity. Until 2016, production was led by master turner Noritoshi Kanesaki, a disciple of the legendary nibmeister Kubo Kohei, adding a unique artisanal legacy. Today, Eboya continues to create durable, comfortable writing instruments with an unmistakable finish.
"A jewel that unites Japanese spiritual tradition with excellence in writing."
