Concept and design
Ricchiku (立竹) means “standing bamboo” or “upright bamboo.” Eboya chose this name to express the beauty, strength and flexibility of bamboo through the shape of a fountain pen. The Kaze (風) finish—whose name means “wind” in Japanese—combines blue-green marbling with darker areas to produce a deep, organic pattern. The distribution of these colours varies naturally, making every pen visually distinct.
The ebonite rod is formed by extrusion before being carefully shaped and polished in the workshop. As the curved surface and characteristic bamboo nodes are formed, different sections of the marbled material become visible. The clipless construction preserves the uninterrupted outline of a bamboo stalk and provides a larger surface on which to appreciate the individual ebonite pattern.

Eboya history and philosophy
Eboya is the writing instrument brand of Nikko Ebonite Manufacturing, founded in Tokyo in 1952 and recognised as Japan’s only ebonite manufacturer. Its work covers the entire journey of the material, from combining natural rubber and sulphur to forming the rods, finishing the body and completing the final nib inspection and adjustment.
Nikko Ebonite developed its own coloured and marbled ebonite in 2008 and began selling original fountain pens the following year.
