Teranishi Guitar Aurora Sunset Pink Glass Dip Pen

The Teranishi Guitar Aurora Sunset Pink Glass Dip Pen combines the simplicity of a traditional dip pen with a design created for enjoying bottled inks in a direct and convenient way. Its hard-glass nib features the characteristic spiral channels found on glass pens, allowing it to hold ink and release it gradually while writing or drawing. Simply dip the tip lightly into your chosen ink bottle and begin writing.

The barrel is made from acrylic resin and has a comfortable diameter for writing. In the Sunset Pink version, vivid pink, magenta and violet tones create a bright and dynamic appearance. Natural variations in the acrylic pattern give each pen its own individual character and reinforce the decorative appeal of the Aurora series.

One of the defining features of this collection is its protective cap. When the pen is not in use, the cap protects the delicate glass nib and makes the pen easier to store or carry. While writing, it can be placed on the back of the barrel, increasing the overall length and providing a more balanced feel in the hand.

Removable glass nib and easy cleaning

The glass nib can be unscrewed from the barrel, making both everyday cleaning and more thorough maintenance easier. When changing inks, rinsing the nib with water and drying it is normally all that is required before moving on to another colour. This makes the Guitar Aurora Sunset Pink especially practical for testing different inks without having to empty and clean a fountain pen between samples.

It is also particularly suitable for shimmer and particle inks. Because a dip pen has no feed or internal ink channels, it allows these inks to be explored without the cleaning and clogging concerns that can arise with some fountain pens. It can also be used with different water-based, pigment and coloured inks, making it a versatile tool for creative writing, ink testing, drawing and calligraphy.

A glass dip pen designed for regular use

Traditional glass pens are often associated with delicate desk instruments. The Aurora series introduces several features that make the concept more practical: an acrylic barrel, protective cap, removable components and a replaceable glass nib. Should the tip become damaged or broken, it can be replaced with the dedicated nib designed for the series, extending the useful life of the pen.

Using it is deliberately straightforward. Dip the nib into your chosen bottle of ink, allow the spiral channels to collect the ink and begin writing. Once finished, simply wipe or rinse the nib clean. This immediacy is particularly appealing to anyone with a collection of bottled inks who enjoys moving frequently from one colour to another.

History and philosophy of Teranishi

The Teranishi name comes directly from the surname of its founder, Choichi Teranishi. In April 1916, at only 18 years of age and after spending three years learning the manufacture of ink, he established the workshop in Osaka that would eventually become Teranishi Chemical Industry. Its early products included writing inks and coloured pencils made in Japan, at a time when fountain pens were beginning to spread and the domestic market still relied heavily on imported products.

Teranishi worked to develop Japanese-made materials capable of competing in quality with foreign products. The company gradually expanded both its range and its markets while keeping colour, writing and artistic expression at the centre of its identity. This background helps explain why its present-day collections combine practical function, cultural references and carefully considered visual design.

Guitar is the historic brand and commercial emblem of Teranishi Chemical. In 1931 the company established Guitar Mark as a brand for its export products and later introduced it to the Japanese market. Teranishi preserves two possible explanations for the origin of the name: the popularity of the guitar in the Philippines, one of its major overseas markets at the time, and an association between the richness of artistic colours and musical notes.

The original Guitar emblem depicted Benzaiten holding a biwa, a traditional Japanese musical instrument. It was later redesigned as a queen holding a guitar before evolving into the present symbol, which combines a crown, a musical note and the six letters of GUITAR. This visual identity connects the company's experience in inks and artistic materials with the worlds of music and colour.

The company's history is also one of resilience. Its facilities and materials were destroyed during the bombing of Osaka in 1945, yet production resumed in February 1946. In 1953 it developed Magic Ink, one of the most significant products in its history and described by the company as the first oil-based permanent marker manufactured in Japan.

The Guitar Aurora series continues this century-long relationship with ink and colour from a different perspective. Rather than storing ink inside a fountain pen, the glass dip pen invites the user to interact directly with each bottle, move from one shade to another within seconds and make the choice of colour part of the writing experience itself.

“A simple way to discover every ink, one colour at a time.”
