Kobeha Recto A5 is a Japanese grid notebook with grey ruling and saddle-stitched binding. A limited-distribution editorial project designed to adapt to different writing, drawing, and organizing styles.
The Kobeha A5 Recto Grid Notebook is a Japanese notebook designed to adapt to different ways of writing, drawing, and organizing ideas. It belongs to the Recto series, named after the concept of the right angle and the geometric structure that defines its layout. This is a Japanese editorial project with very limited distribution, available through select channels, created for those who value real functionality over decoration.
People use notebooks in different ways, and not every writing style fits the standard 5 mm grid. The Recto series was created to explore alternatives, offering eight different grid sizes ranging from 1 mm to 8 mm. This variety allows users to choose the spacing that best matches their handwriting size, writing instrument, or type of content.
Unlike ruled paper, grid layouts allow alignment both horizontally and vertically. This makes it easier to organize lists, diagrams, and tables, and to divide the page intuitively without drawing additional guide lines. The result is a clean, structured page that remains easy to read and review over time.
Finer grids of 1–2 mm are well suited for detailed drawing or technical illustration, while larger grids of 7–8 mm can be used as guides for tables, margins, or dividers. The notebook is also ideal for scrapbooking, pasting documents, or designing visual layouts, offering structure without restricting creativity.
The A5 size offers an excellent balance between portability and writing area. Commonly used for planners and daily notebooks, it fits easily into a bag while providing ample space when opened. It is not intended as a heavy study notebook, but as a reliable tool for recording, organizing, and reviewing information on a regular basis.
The interior paper is compatible with fountain pens and has been selected for a balanced writing experience. The grid is printed in a soft grey tone to prevent the lines from dominating the page or distracting from the content. Saddle-stitched binding results in a slim, lightweight notebook that is easy to carry and use anywhere.
The cover follows the minimalist white design shared across the Recto series, with the grid and size discreetly printed on the front. This consistency allows different grid sizes to be stored together without visual disruption. A matte PP coating protects the cover from water and stains, making it suitable for everyday use.
Kobeha develops Japanese editorial projects focused on functionality, rational design, and everyday use. The Recto series clearly reflects this philosophy: a notebook without unnecessary elements, designed to support real thinking, writing, and review processes. Rather than a decorative object, it is an honest tool made to last and adapt to its user.
"When structure is clear, ideas find their place."
