The Midori Grain B6 Ring Notebook brings together a Spanish-made leather fiber cover and Midori’s renowned Japanese MD PAPER. Its 200 pages provide two different writing surfaces, while the compact B6 format offers plenty of room for planning, fountain pen writing and drawing. Available in Black, Dark Brown, Red and Green, it is ideal for anyone looking for a versatile, durable notebook with a distinctive material story.
Grain originated within The World Meister’s Products, a Midori project created to combine materials and specialist skills from different countries with Japanese design and manufacturing. The cover material is carefully produced at a tannery in the Valencia region of Spain, while the finished notebook is designed and made in Japan. Its warm surface is paired with a brass-toned double-ring binding, an elastic closure and Japanese paper developed for everyday writing.
The Grain name comes from the Spanish material used for the cover. Midori defines it as bonded leather fiber, made by pulverizing cowhide remnants and forming them into new sheets. This process makes use of animal material that might otherwise be discarded while retaining the characteristic color, texture and scent of leather. The material has been produced in this way since 1878 and reflects many generations of technical refinement and skilled manufacturing.
The notebook contains 200 pages of Japanese MD PAPER: 100 white pages with 6 mm ruled lines and 100 blank cream pages. The ruled section follows the layout of Midori’s long-running Diamond Memo. Heavier lines divide each page into four useful areas for schedules, task lists, study notes or personal records. The ruling extends to the edge of the paper, making this section immediately distinguishable from the blank cream pages.
The unruled pages provide an open surface for sketches, illustrations, diagrams, ink samples or unrestricted writing. Together, the two paper styles allow structured notes and visual ideas to be kept in the same notebook without having to choose between a ruled or completely blank format.
The double-ring binding allows the pages to turn smoothly and helps the notebook remain open on a desk. An elastic band attached to the back cover keeps the pages protected inside a bag or backpack. Midori also incorporates a firm writing support into the final page so that the elastic fastener and its fittings do not interfere with writing near the back of the notebook.
These practical details make the Grain B6 suitable for daily planning, work notes, study, journaling, fountain pen ink testing and drawing. Its dimensions provide more writing space than a pocket memo while remaining compact enough to carry throughout the day.
All four versions share the same dimensions, paper, page count, binding and elastic closure. Only the cover color changes, allowing you to select your preferred version before adding the notebook to the cart.
The Grain logo features a motif inspired by Spanish bullfighting and a recreation of a historic Spanish typeface. Its letterforms refer to the type used in the 1780 edition of Don Quixote, prepared by the Royal Spanish Academy and printed by Joaquín Ibarra. This subtle detail connects Spanish printing history, Japanese paper and the personal act of writing.
