Nagasawa Kobe No. 37 Minatojima Blue Island 50 ml Fountain Pen Ink

The Nagasawa Kobe No. 37 Minatojima Blue Island is inspired by Port Island, one of Kobe's most iconic artificial islands. Created through land reclamation projects, this island represents the city's ability to expand into the bay and develop new spaces where innovation, transportation, research and urban life coexist.

The colour of this ink originates from the sea surrounding Kobe Airport, located at the southernmost tip of Port Island. On clear days, the water reflects the blue sky and sunlight, creating a luminous landscape stretching towards the horizon. This ink seeks to capture that remarkable deep blue visible from above when looking down over Kobe Bay.

Port Island: An Island Born from the Sea

Port Island (Minatojima) was one of Japan's first large-scale artificial islands. Its construction transformed Kobe Bay and enabled the development of new port facilities, research centres, commercial districts and residential areas.

The name Minatojima literally means "Harbour Island", perfectly reflecting its close relationship with the sea and Kobe's long maritime history. Through the Kobe Ink collection, this modern landscape is transformed into a writing experience inspired by the colours of water and light.

A Blue Inspired by the Sea of Kobe

According to the official description, the inspiration comes from the waters surrounding Kobe Airport. Under clear skies and bright sunlight, the sea displays a beautiful deep blue glow that became the direct source of inspiration for this ink.

The result is a rich blue with subtle violet undertones that recall the depth of the sea viewed from the sky. Depending on the paper and nib used, the ink can reveal attractive tonal variations that add character and visual depth to writing.

Writing Experience

Manufactured by Sailor for Nagasawa, Minatojima Blue Island provides a smooth, reliable and well-balanced writing experience. Its colour combines strong personality with excellent readability, making it suitable for everyday writing, correspondence, journals and travel notebooks.

It is particularly appealing to fountain pen enthusiasts who appreciate complex blue inks inspired by maritime landscapes and wish to bring a small piece of Kobe's atmosphere into their writing.

Seeing the True Colour

As with many Japanese fountain pen inks, the appearance of the colour may vary depending on paper, lighting conditions and monitor settings. Nagasawa also displays the actual ink colour on the bottle cap, which can be seen in the official video .

To fully appreciate its shading and depth, we recommend high-quality fountain pen papers such as the Graphilo Kobe Ink or the Graphilo Kobe Font, both of which showcase the characteristics of Sailor-made inks exceptionally well.
