The Nagasawa Engrave Kou is a limited and individually numbered Japanese fountain pen created as a tribute to the PenStyle Memo Kai. It combines PMMA resin with a ray-engraved metal body featuring a traditional koushi lattice pattern. Compact yet well balanced when posted, it is equipped with a 14K gold nib engraved with the Nagasawa weathervane.
The Nagasawa Engrave Kou fountain pen was created as a tribute to the PenStyle Memo Kai released in 2011. This model inherits the distinctive ray-carved body of its predecessor and refines it into a compact, elegant writing instrument designed for everyday use. It is ideal for writers who appreciate Japanese craftsmanship combined with a contemporary, functional design.
This is a limited and individually numbered edition, with each fountain pen featuring a serial number engraved on the side of the nib. Production is strictly limited, making every piece unique and especially appealing to collectors. The name “Kou” refers both to the act of engraving and to the traditional lattice pattern known as kōshi-gara, which defines the visual identity of the pen.
The body combines PMMA resin with metal finished in nickel chrome plating, creating a striking contrast of textures. The engraved metal section provides depth and character, while the resin areas offer balance and comfort in hand. When capped, the pen measures 117.8 mm, but once posted, it reaches an ideal length for stable and comfortable writing.
The 14K gold nib is engraved with a weathervane, a signature element of Nagasawa’s original fountain pen designs. It is available in two nib sizes—Medium Fine and Medium—allowing users to choose the writing experience that best suits their style. The pen supports both cartridges and converters and includes a mini-size converter.
Nagasawa Bungu Center, based in Kobe, creates original fountain pens that merge Japanese tradition with modern usability. Its fountain pens are manufactured in collaboration with Sailor, using their technical foundation while introducing distinctive elements unique to Nagasawa. One of the most recognizable features is the replacement of Sailor’s anchor with a weathervane engraved on the nib, a long-standing symbol of Nagasawa and its maritime heritage.
This approach results in writing instruments that are reliable, expressive, and designed for daily use, while maintaining the exclusivity of limited and individually numbered editions.
“Designed for everyday writing, crafted to stand the test of time.”
