The SAKAE TP Tomoe River FP Paper Pad A4 Plain White 100 Sheets provides a generous writing surface for fountain pens, inks and other writing instruments. Its unruled 52gsm Japanese paper is glued along the top edge, keeping the sheets organised until each finished piece is ready to be removed.
Ideal for calligraphy, correspondence, illustration, sketching, large ink samples, extended notes and creative work that requires more room than an A5 sheet.
A4 space for larger writing projects
The A4 format provides enough room for long letters, complete calligraphy alphabets, detailed illustrations and comparisons between several inks on a single sheet. Text, headings and visual elements can be combined without dividing the work across multiple pages.
Because the sheets are completely unruled, users can choose either portrait or landscape orientation and develop each layout freely. A separate guide sheet may be placed underneath whenever temporary alignment is required, leaving the finished work clean and free from printed ruling.
A top-glued pad with removable sheets
The 100 sheets remain securely grouped by glue along the top edge. This construction keeps the paper protected and orderly on a desk while allowing individual pages to be removed for sharing, framing, filing or use in another project.

52gsm Tomoe River FP paper
The pad contains white 52gsm Tomoe River FP paper manufactured by Sanzen Paper Manufacturing. The FP designation reflects the range’s fountain pen focus. Its smooth surface allows users to observe ink colour, shading and the surface sheen produced by certain formulations while keeping each sheet exceptionally thin and light.
Writing may remain visible from the reverse because of the paper’s low weight. This show-through, commonly called ghosting, does not necessarily mean that ink has penetrated the sheet. Bleed-through occurs only when ink passes through and marks the opposite face. At Inktraveler, we find this distinction particularly useful because results depend on the ink, nib width and flow, drying time and repeated strokes.
Bamboo washi blotting sheet
Immediately beneath the cover is a blotting sheet made from pH-neutral Japanese washi containing bamboo fibres. It can be placed over freshly written or drawn areas to help absorb excess ink and reduce accidental smudging before the page is handled or removed from the pad.
The Tomoe River FP writing sheets follow beneath it. SAKAE identifies this white-paper version with a silver Tomoe River FP logo stamped on the cover, while the corresponding cream-paper pad uses a gold finish.

History and philosophy of SAKAE Technical Paper
SAKAE Technical Paper is a Japanese company involved in the planning, manufacture, conversion and sale of paper and stationery products. The present company was established in 2016, continuing a paper-goods tradition connected with the Tochiman name since 1960. Through its paper paper brand, SAKAE explores paper as both a practical material and a medium for writing, drawing and creative expression.
Tomoe River paper was originally manufactured by Tomoegawa. In 2021, the relevant trademark rights, sales agreements and remaining inventory were transferred to Sanzen Paper Manufacturing, allowing the range to continue. SAKAE adapted current Sanzen-made Tomoe River FP paper to this large-format pad so that every sheet remains organised until the finished work is ready to be removed and preserved.
