(Pilot Custom Urushi - Prussian Blue Fountain Pen)
Released in 2025 as the latest addition to the renowned Custom Urushi series (first introduced in 2016), the Pilot Custom Urushi - Prussian Blue Fountain Pen stands as a true expression of Japanese craftsmanship. Combining generous proportions with traditional techniques, it is designed for writers who appreciate elegance, heritage, and an exceptional writing experience.
The pen’s body is made of hand-turned ebonite and finished with Roiro Urushi, a traditional Japanese lacquering technique that involves multiple layers of natural urushi lacquer. The process includes controlled temperature and humidity drying phases, followed by a meticulous hand polishing to achieve a deep mirror-like gloss. The lacquer is applied by Kokkokai artisans, known for their long-standing work on Namiki and Pilot masterpieces.
The Prussian Blue finish (紺青, kon-jō) gives the pen an elegant and subdued tone that reveals rich variations under changing light. Its oversized shape is both visually impressive and ergonomically balanced for long writing sessions. The combination of traditional materials and refined proportions makes this pen ideal for collectors and calligraphy enthusiasts.
The pen is fitted with a No.30 bicolor nib made of 18K gold (750/1000), combining yellow gold and rhodium for a luxurious appearance and smooth writing performance. The filling system is the high-capacity CON-70 converter, which allows for quick ink intake and easy maintenance. This system also accepts Pilot proprietary cartridges. The warmth of the ebonite, paired with the flex and responsiveness of the nib, make this pen a pleasure to write with every day.
The Pilot Custom Urushi - Prussian Blue comes in a presentation box, including the CON-70 converter, one ink cartridge, and official Pilot documentation.
Gold is measured in 24 parts. An 18K gold nib means that 18 of 24 parts are pure gold (750/1000), while the remaining 6 parts are alloyed with metals such as silver or copper. This blend enhances flexibility, resilience, and softness — ideal for writing instruments.
Founded in Tokyo in 1918, Pilot has become a global benchmark for quality writing instruments. The Custom line embodies this tradition, and the Urushi edition stands at the top: noble materials, refined craftsmanship, and exceptional performance. Pilot continues to pursue five founding principles: balance between maker, seller, and user; solidarity; overcoming adversity; daily improvement; and authentic dedication to excellence.
“A pen that honors time, material, and intention — every stroke with the Pilot Custom Urushi is a writing ritual.”
