The Sailor TUZU ADJUST Forge Gunmetal Fountain Pen combines TUZU's adjustable nib system with a sophisticated Gunmetal finish created through vacuum metallization. Its Natural Fit Grip and metal-powder-infused section provide comfort, balance and a more substantial feel in the hand. Supplied with a Sailor converter, it is available with F, M and B stainless steel nibs.
The Sailor TUZU ADJUST Forge Gunmetal Fountain Pen takes the ergonomic concept behind TUZU into a more refined direction, with a metallic finish that combines subtle shine with a sophisticated matte appearance. It retains the distinctive rotating nib system and Natural Fit Grip while introducing a metal-powder-infused section for greater presence and balance in the hand. Its stainless steel nib is available in F, M and B, and a Sailor converter comes installed inside the pen.
The TUZU ADJUST Forge collection preserves the functional philosophy of TUZU while giving the fountain pen a more sophisticated presence. Sailor applies a vacuum metallization process to the barrel and cap to create a metallic surface that combines a distinctive lustre with an elegantly subdued appearance. Black elements provide contrast against the metallic finish and reinforce the clean, technical character of the design.
The Gunmetal version uses a deep metallic tone associated by Sailor with the solid, powerful character of metal. This is not simply coloured resin: the visual effect of the barrel and cap comes from the metallization process applied to their surfaces. The result combines TUZU's contemporary design with a more understated aesthetic, making it particularly appealing to writers who want a modern fountain pen with a metallic appearance without the weight of a fully metal body.
To create the Forge finish, Sailor places aluminium inside a high-vacuum chamber and heats it until it vaporizes. The aluminium vapour is then deposited onto the surface, forming a very thin metallic film. This process gives the resin structure a texture and lustre reminiscent of metal before colour is added to create the different Forge finishes. Sailor also specifies the use of a PFAS-free coating.
One of the defining features of TUZU ADJUST is its rotating nib system. Instead of requiring you to change the way you naturally hold a fountain pen, the orientation of the nib and grip can be adjusted to better suit your usual writing angle. Adjustment is possible in 10° increments, helping different users — including both right- and left-handed writers — find a position that works naturally with their individual grip.
Forge retains the characteristic Natural Fit Grip of TUZU, with two gently sloping surfaces that provide a broad contact area for the fingers. For this version, Sailor introduces a high-density resin section containing a high concentration of metal powder. This adds weight around the grip for a different balance compared with the standard TUZU, while also giving the section a pleasantly cool, metal-like feel in the hand.
The Sailor TUZU ADJUST Forge Gunmetal is fitted with a stainless steel nib available in three sizes: Fine (F), Medium (M) and Broad (B). It uses Sailor's proprietary cartridge/converter filling system and is supplied with the converter already installed inside the pen, allowing it to be filled directly from an ink bottle or used with Sailor ink cartridges.
Forge retains the two essential features of TUZU ADJUST — the rotating nib and Natural Fit Grip — while significantly changing the material experience. Vacuum metallization gives the body its metallic appearance, while the metal-powder-infused section adds weight around the grip. At 22.5 g, Forge therefore feels more substantial in the hand while preserving the ergonomic approach that defines the TUZU concept.

See how to adjust your TUZU in the following video:
Founded in Hiroshima in 1911, Sailor has spent more than a century developing Japanese writing instruments. TUZU grew from a project that began in 2019 with an unusual idea: instead of expecting every writer to hold a fountain pen in the same way, create a pen capable of adapting to different writing habits. After years of development and testing, TUZU was introduced in 2024 and received an Excellence Award in the Functionality category of the Japan Stationery Awards that same year. Forge continues this philosophy with a more elaborate construction and a different material presence while retaining the adjustable system at the heart of TUZU.
