The Sailor STORiA MiX 20 ml Pigment Fountain Pen Ink is a collection of water-resistant Japanese inks designed for chromatic colour mixing. These pigment inks can be used individually or combined together to create personalised shades, including pastel effects using the dedicated STORiA MiX solvent. Specially formulated for fountain pens, they offer excellent stability, rich colour depth and outstanding performance on high quality Japanese paper.
The Sailor STORiA MiX 20 ml pigment fountain pen ink is one of Sailor’s most innovative and creative proposals within the world of Japanese inks. This collection was specifically designed to allow colour mixing between inks, combining the expressive qualities of watercolour painting with the practical advantages of a water-resistant pigment ink. The result is a series especially attractive for illustrators, journaling enthusiasts, calligraphers and fountain pen users who wish to create personalised tones while maintaining excellent stability on paper.
Unlike many conventional inks, the STORiA MiX series was conceived by Sailor as a true chromatic mixing system for fountain pens. Each colour can be used independently as a normal writing ink or mixed with other STORiA MiX colours to create completely personalised shades.
The original collection includes several colours allowing an enormous range of combinations inspired by traditional pictorial colour mixing techniques and Japanese watercolour aesthetics. Depending on the proportions used, it is possible to obtain warmer, deeper, softer or more vibrant tones, something especially interesting for illustration, artistic writing and creative work.
One of the most interesting aspects of the system is that the inks can be mixed directly together even without the use of additional additives. Sailor specifically developed this collection so the colours could be combined while maintaining stable and fountain-pen-friendly behaviour.
In addition to the different available colours, the series also includes a dedicated STORiA MiX solvent designed to modify pigment concentration without altering ink stability. This liquid is not required for colour mixing, but it greatly expands the creative possibilities of the collection.
Using the solvent makes it possible to obtain lighter, more translucent and luminous shades, creating soft gradients, pastel effects and more delicate tonal variations that would be difficult to achieve simply by mixing saturated inks together. In many cases, the visual effect recalls the behaviour of traditional Japanese watercolours on paper.
For mixing, Sailor recommends working in small quantities using separate containers. STORiA MiX inks should only be mixed with other STORiA MiX inks and are not compatible with the conventional Sailor STORiA series 13-1006 or with traditional dye-based inks.
Unlike conventional dye-based inks, STORiA MiX uses pigments suspended in a water-based formulation. This provides greater water resistance and significantly reduces bleed-through, something especially useful for illustration, permanent notes, creative writing and work where colour stability is important.
The ink maintains balanced flow and good lubrication in properly maintained fountain pens, although as with any pigment ink, something we have repeatedly observed at Inktraveler is the importance of performing regular cleaning if the pen will not be used for extended periods of time.
STORiA MiX inks are formulated specifically for fountain pens. Their behaviour becomes especially interesting in medium, broad and stub nibs, where tonal complexity and colour mixtures can be appreciated more clearly.
At Inktraveler, this collection often attracts users who enjoy exploring colour from a more artistic perspective, creating personalised palettes directly through fountain pen writing.
To fully enjoy the saturation, resistance and chromatic behaviour of STORiA MiX inks, we recommend using high quality Japanese papers such as the Midori Cotton Pad A5, where pigments and colour mixtures reveal their depth and stability much more clearly.
Is this a pigment ink?
Yes. STORiA MiX uses water-resistant pigments in a water-based formulation.
Can it be used without mixing?
Yes. Each colour works perfectly well as an independent fountain pen ink for normal writing.
Is the solvent required?
No. The inks can be mixed directly together. The solvent simply allows lighter, softer and more translucent shades to be created.
Can it be mixed with other Sailor inks?
No. It should only be mixed with other inks from the STORiA MiX series.
Does it require more cleaning than conventional ink?
Yes. As with any pigment ink, regular fountain pen cleaning is recommended if the pen will not be used for some time.

Founded in Hiroshima in 1911, Sailor is one of the great Japanese references in the world of writing instruments. For more than a century, the company has developed fountain pens, nibs and inks internationally recognised for their technical quality and aesthetic sensitivity.
The STORiA MiX collection reflects especially well this combination of innovation and Japanese creativity. Rather than focusing solely on a final predefined colour, Sailor proposes an open system where each user can explore new chromatic combinations while maintaining the functionality and stability expected from a modern pigment fountain pen ink.
"Some colours are not born from a single ink, but from the freedom to mix them."
