Taccia Ukiyoe Kuniyoshi Budou Nezu is a 40 ml Japanese fountain pen ink in an elegant purple-grey shade inspired by the traditional Budou Nezu colour. Its subtle violet undertones provide a sophisticated alternative to conventional dark inks.
The Taccia Ukiyoe Kuniyoshi Budou Nezu is part of the third edition of Taccia’s Ukiyo-e Ink Collection, inspired by the work of the celebrated Japanese artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798–1861), one of the last great masters of ukiyo-e woodblock printing.
Taccia’s Ukiyo-e collection began in 2020 with a first series inspired by the works of Hokusai and Sharaku, followed in 2021 by a second collection dedicated to Hiroshige and Utamaro. This third edition pays tribute to Kuniyoshi through a selection of colours inspired by some of his most iconic images.
The collection consists of seven colours: Azuki, Keshizumi, Budou Nezu, Kuro Midori, Uguisucha, Kuromurasaki and Akane, all characterised by deep and dramatic tones inspired by Kuniyoshi’s visual world.
Budou Nezu (葡萄鼠) literally means “grape grey”. This traditional Japanese colour combines the richness of ripe grape tones with subtle smoky greys, creating a refined and understated shade that was highly appreciated during the Edo period.
Taccia interprets this historic colour as an elegant grey with delicate purple undertones. The result is a sophisticated ink with a distinctive personality, offering an attractive alternative to traditional black or blue inks.
Inspired by the artistic world of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Budou Nezu reflects the atmosphere, contrast and visual depth found throughout the master's work. Its subtle tonal variations create a rich and engaging writing experience.
Budou Nezu presents a sophisticated purple-grey tone that may reveal bluish, violet or smoky undertones depending on the paper, lighting and ink concentration.
Its excellent readability and refined appearance make it an outstanding choice for journals, correspondence, creative writing, illustration and any project where a sophisticated alternative to traditional dark inks is desired.
