Taccia Hyakko-Hisho Urushi Seiheki Fountain Pen: ebonite with Seiheki blue Urushi lacquer, two-tone 14K gold nib by Sailor, 150 mm length, 30 g weight, accepts Sailor cartridge or converter.
The Taccia Hyakko-Hisho Urushi Seiheki Fountain Pen belongs to the 百工比照漆万年筆 (“Hyakko-Hisho Urushi Fountain Pen”) series, inspired by the compilation of knowledge on traditional crafts collected and organized in the 17th–18th centuries. “Hyakko-Hisho” encompasses invaluable information to preserve the original techniques of that era. Materials studied range from paper, Urushi, woods, dyes, bamboo, ivory to metal, totaling over 20,000 references. These fountain pens pay homage to the historical value of that compendium, allowing firsthand experience of the artisan heritage passed down through generations.
The design of the Hyakko-Hisho Urushi Seiheki draws inspiration from the sword scabbards used by samurai. By evoking their imposing appearance, it projects the strength and resolve of those warriors onto modern individuals who work diligently. The barrel and cap are turned from ebonite and coated with Seiheki blue Urushi lacquer, applied in layers to achieve a deep, lasting sheen. Each lacquer-dry-polish cycle brings out nuanced shades of blue, reflecting serenity and nobility akin to samurai steel under light.
Equipped with a two-tone 14K gold nib, crafted and finished by Sailor in Japan, this fountain pen delivers a smooth, consistent ink flow—perfect for everyday writing or more refined calligraphy, depending on the chosen nib size (EF/F/MF/M/B/MS). Its filling system accepts either a Sailor cartridge or converter, giving users the flexibility to choose between convenience or bottle-ink refills. Airtight threading allows the cap to be posted and unposted in a single turn, ensuring a perfect seal and immediate readiness. With a body diameter of 13.8 mm and a total length of 150 mm, this 30 g pen strikes the ideal balance between portability and stability for extended writing sessions.
Taccia is a Japanese brand specializing in fountain pens, inks, and pen cases made from kimono fabrics. Founded in 2003 by Shu-Jen Lin in California, Taccia’s mission was to introduce traditional Japanese decorative techniques—such as Urushi lacquer, raden (mother-of-pearl), ebonite bodies, and minimalist design—to the United States and Canada.
In 2011, Itoya’s American division acquired Taccia and appointed Shu-Jen Lin as Brand Manager to ensure continuity in design and style. Since April 1, 2018, Taccia has been part of Nakabayashi (established in 1923 in Osaka), preserving its Japanese essence and relying exclusively on Sailor for nib manufacturing. Attention to detail is evident in the precise cap fit and the Urushi lacquer applied to the grip section. Each pen is presented in a refined Paulownia wood case to ensure protection and impeccable presentation.
Taccia stands behind its products with a Limited Lifetime Mechanical Warranty for the original owner. This warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship for the life of the product. It does not cover damage resulting from user abuse, misuse, or any non‐factory alterations.
