Founded in 1919, Platinum Pen Co. is one of Japan’s most esteemed fountain pen manufacturers. Known for blending craftsmanship with technological innovation, Platinum created the 3776 series to represent a new standard in writing excellence.
The original 3776 was designed in 1978 by the late writing expert Haruo Umeda—nicknamed “Mr. Fountain Pen”—in collaboration with Platinum’s in-house team. It quickly became a success, selling over 150,000 units in its first six months and earning lasting admiration.
Between 2009 and 2011, the series underwent a complete redesign using over 40,000 writing data points collected by Platinum’s subsidiary Nakaya. This led to the development of the Motosu and Century models, built with new materials, molds, and a commitment to performance and elegance.
